Abstract:
So, it's been five weeks since I mailed in my federal tax refund, where's my check?
I wish that I was better at gauging my tax deductions so that I wouldn't have a federal tax refund. That money is mine and could be put to better use than letting the government float on it.
It's been five weeks and I haven't gotten my tax refund check yet. I went to the IRS website and typed in "Where's my refund check?" in their search function. Voila! To my surprise there is a function on their Web site that allows you to look up the status of your refund:
IRS Where's My Refund Check Function
You will be required to complete three pieces of information before the IRS Web site will be able to provide you a status on your refund check. You need:
- to be comfortable in providing your social security number online for the functionality to work.
- to know how the filing status of your return (single, married filed jointly, married filed separately, etc.)
- to know how much the refund is that you're expecting
Assuming you enter all three pieces of information correctly, the site will provide you an estimated date of arrival whether you requested direct deposit or a check to be mailed to you.
