Abstract:
The smell of chocolate chip cookies baking in the oven always reminds me of visiting my grandparents at the holidays. This chocolate chip cookie recipe was handed down by my grandmother and now I'm sharing it with you. In my opinion, it is the best chocolate chip cookie recipe ever.
Some of the best gifts to give and receive are those you make in your kitchen. I think cookies are the best gift because everyone loves cookies!
This chocolate chip cookie recipe is a holiday favorite in my family.
If you can plan ahead of time you may be able to bargain shop for the ingredients. Look in your local grocery store fliers for when chocolate chips, flour, and walnuts go on sale as these are the most expensive ingredients in the recipe.
As with my other recipes that call for all-purpose white flour, consider buying a higher grade whole wheat flour. Keep a look out for sale on an organic flour and I promise you will definitely taste a richer more satisfying cookie experience.
YIELD:
6 dozen 2-1/2 inch cookies
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla (plus a dash more)
2 eggs
2.5 cups unsifted flour
1 tsp banking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 12-ounce semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
DIRECTIONS:
- Cream butter, sugar, brown sugar and vanilla until light and fluffy.
- Beat eggs and add them to the mixture.
- Combine flour, baking soda and salt; gradually stir into creamed mixture.
- Chop the nuts as fine as possible so that they are almost look like a nutty flour.
- Stir in chocolate chips and nuts into batter.
- Drop by teaspoonful onto slightly greased cookie sheet
- Bake at 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned
- Cool slightly; remove from cookie sheet
On the recipe card my grandmother made this cooking note: One of the tricks to these cookies is to remove them just slightly before they are done.
